Extract from Cultural Field - The end bit.

Cultural Field, 2022.
50mins.
My most ambitious film to date, performed by 12 female, non-binary & trans footballers and performers, directed by Louis Brown and Jos Bitelli. It records the meeting of fictional 5-a-side football teams ANTI-CAPITALISTS UTD and CAPITALIST CITY on one of the largest areas of common land remaining in Greater London. Competing for the Cup, players improvise in-role as characters including TENANT, COLONIALIST, in a power struggle for land.
Live-action gameplay and in-studio punditry moves between gameplay and socio-economic analysis inspired by Rosa Luxemberg, the Football Association’s 1921 ban on women footballers, and the historic enclosure of English common land.
The film plays with the line between improvisation and scripting, sport and theatre. The script works like a sort of 'Murder Mystery Dinner Party', where the outcome of the narrative was determined by the actual result of the real 'improvised' football game the players play, rather than by me, the writer, ahead of time. That said, unknown to all the participants, there are certain 'rigs' or 'theatrical set pieces', fed to the REF, MANAGER and certain players, to disrupt their agency & push them into more dramatic and competitive scenarios.
